CHOOSING YOUR CABIN OR SUITE

Choosing the right cabin can have a large impact on your cruise experience, so it pays to take a little extra time in viewing the Deck plan and making an informed decision.

Remember, I would be happy to help you with your cabin selection.  It’s all part of the service that I provide.

Tip: Often it’s much less than you think to upgrade to the next cabin category!!

CABIN CATEGORIES

Guaranteed Cabin

A ‘Guaranteed' cabin in any category means that you will be assigned a cabin by the cruise line somewhere in that category, with the possibility of moving up to the next cabin grade.  However, you will not be assigned your actual cabin number until much closer to the sailing date, sometimes as late as embarkation.  If you’re not fussy about where your cabin is, then this can be exceptional value.

Inside Cabin

If you’re not one for spending too much time in your cabin, then an inside cabin can be great value, as the facilities, internal size and decor are usually the same as higher cabin grades.  Inside cabins are also perfect for a late sleeper!

Outside / Ocean View Cabin

Like the inside cabin, the facilities will usually be the same, with the addition of a picture window.  This can be handy to see what the weather is like outside and a great option on a cooler weather cruise, when you may be less likely to use a balcony.

Obstructed view

This is where viewing the deck plan can really help.  Obstructed view means that the view from your window or balcony may be partially or fully obstructed by a lifeboat, crane or other piece of marine hardware.  However, if you choose carefully, you can still get great views either in between or over the lifeboats.  Either way, that little bit of natural daylight and in some cases fresh air is a huge bonus.  Often these cabins are the best value!

Balcony Cabin

If you intend on spending some quality, relaxing and private time on your cruise, then tip in that little bit extra for a balcony.  That extra feeling of space and being able to enjoy breakfast, a sunset drink or just read a book in your private deck space is well worth it.

Tip: The balcony cabins at the rear of the ship are a great place to escape the wind.

Suites

The ultimate cabins on all ships. If your budget allows for it, then why not!!  Some of the inclusions that come with the suites, like priority boarding and premium dining options, can be well worth the extra expense alone.

CABIN LOCATION

Ship Movement

These days modern cruise ships are all fitted with stabilizers and ship movement is minimal, however if you do suffer from motion sickness, then try to select a cabin located Midship or towards the back or even on a lower deck, this will help minimise the movement.

Noise

Once again, check that deck plan!  If you’re a light sleeper then perhaps it’s not a good idea to choose a cabin that’s right above the disco, or directly beneath a busy buffet area.  Some cabins located near the main lifts and stairwells obviously get more passing foot traffic that may create a bit of extra noise.  I personally like a cabin close to the lifts and I have never had a problem with noise.

Some may find a little extra vibration in the cabins located above the engines at the rear.

Tip:     For a more peaceful experience, select a deck that’s primarily just for cabins, with no other ship facilities nearby.

Location

The general location of your cabin can be important, depending on how you plan to spend your time on board and your ability to move around the ship.  If you’re ‘on the go’ most of the time, then a cabin located near the main Atrium will serve your well.

Tip:     If you love a sun bake and a swim, then a cabin just below the pool deck will prove very handy, especially if you forget the sunscreen!
